Maple Old Fashioned

Sponsored partnership with Select Brands & Jim Beam

I love old fashioned cocktails in the cooler months. The original American cocktail is the art of simplicity.  It was said to be created by a bartender in the state of Kentucky who served it at a private members club called The Pendennis Club in Louisville in 1889. There is also a mention of it that predates this date in 1880 from The Chicago Tribune who mentioned that drinkers preferred their drinks the ‘old fashioned way’. Regardless, this epitome of an American whiskey cocktail has stood the test of time.

Serves 1

Ingredients

  • 10ml/ maple syrup
  • 45ml/ 1 ½ ozs Jim Beam bourbon
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • A dash orange bitters
  • Cocktail cherries, make sure you use a quality one
  • Orange peel, fresh orange slice or dehydrated orange wheel for garnish

Method

  1. In a stirring glass add maple syrup, bourbon, bitters and ice then stir to combine.
  2. Fill an old fashioned glass with ice and pour in the mixture.

Garnish with an orange peel or wheel and cherries.
